The search for a new bird for Casa Crystal continues.  My mom and I went up to Springfield after I finished work today to look around some pet stores.  Given that I'm me, I of course fell madly in love with a little feathered friend.  His name is Skittles, and he must be mine!  He's a Sun Conure, which I had never heard of before, but that's not important.  The good news is that while I still really want a macaw, Conures are about 1/4 the price, and they only live about 15 years compared to 60, so you don't have to worry about who you're going to leave them to in your will.  Unfortunatly, despite being MUCH cheaper than macaws, our new friend Skittles still costs $539.  Throw in the price of a new cage, whatever it is that conures eat, toys, etc, and you're looking at a lot of money.  But, he is so cute!  He loves to be petted, which is refreshing after only having birds recently that attempt to kill me if I even look at them like I might think about touching them.  Skittles would even lift his wing to indicate that he wanted to be petted under there, then present his head to have that petted, etc.  So much cuteness!  Google couldn't come up with too many sun conure images, so this is the closest to him I found.  At least you get the idea:

(thanks to whoever deserves photo credit for this!)

I'm obviously totally smitten with Skittles, I just have to convince mom.  She liked him a lot, but didn't like the $500+ price tag so much.  But the cuteness!  Oh, and you know when you see those things on TV where they teach birds to ride little bicycles and stuff?  They use this kind of bird, because they're smart at learning tricks!  Come on, birds on bikes!  If that's not a selling point, what is?  (I should mention that after looking at 924867 photos of conures for a picture of a bird on a bike, I now want to get one even mre, because they are SO CUTE)

(I would like to point out that I searched all over for a picture of a bird riding a bike, and all I found was Big Bird on a bike, and the image wouldn't even work.)

I did, however, find this awesome photo of a sun conure wearing a hat, which was in a whole big gallery of sun conure photos!

This photo kind of makes me want an African Grey.  Do they all come with MnM's?

I just got distracted from writing by a pounding noise on my kitchen cabinets.  This usually means that one of the cats is trying to open one by hitting it repeatedly with their paw until it bounces open.  This time, however, Lula was trying to open the cabinet to release Lily, who had somehow gotten trapped in there.  This stuff happens in your house too, right?
