February 1, 2005

I always have to stop and think when I first type "February".  I'm still pretty convinced that it should be spelled "Febuary".  I mean, do you actually know anyone who says Feb roooooooo ary?  Yeah, didn't think so.

So!  Remember my ol' List of Things I Want to Do, and how much I've sucked at actually doing any of them lately?  Well, today I did one!  I was at Hobby Lobby, checking out their snazzy sale, and came across soap making stuff, and it was all so CUTE!  You buy the soapy stuff, and then you can buy food coloring type stuff to turn it colors, and about a zillion different pretty scents, and additives like shea butter, vitamin e, or aloe, to make it extra snazzy, and then little molds to make it different shapes!  I obviously had to give in, and thanks to the super coolness of Hobby Lobby, it was all half off!  I got two kinds of soapy stuff (one plain, one with coconut oil), shea butter, a thingey of coloring, two kinds of molds (flowers on one, turtles and frogs on the other), and three scents (cucumber melon, green apple, and red rose & thyme).  Tonight, after AI and Gilmore Girls (Is it just me, or did Luke & Loralai have more chemistry *before* they got together?) , I decided to expermient!

Everything you need to make soaps! (Cinderella mug optional)

Flower mold (top) and Turtle and Frog mold (bottom)

This is what the soap looks like when it's all cubey!

And this is what it looks like all melty! (The cubes pictured are the regular, and the melty is the coconut oil, because the regular just melts clear, which doesn't make for a very exciting photo)

Adding red coloring

I realized that the scents weren't labeled at all, so I wrote letters on the bottoms, since I'm sure to lose their cute labeled cardboard holders eventually.

Not dry yet, but this gives a pretty good idea of what the flower soaps will look like! (These used to coconut oil base)

And the turtle and froggie soaps! (regular clear base).  I added a little extra blue to the ones on the left.

Finished soaps!  The pink flowers are Rose-Thyme scented,  and the other flowers were supposed to be orange, but turned out a scary flesh color, and the shea butter I added to them covered up the rose scent.  The turtles and frogs are both green apple scent.  Yummy!  Now I want to go make some opaque cucumber melon frogs and turtles!  Anyone want to start taking bets on how many days I last before I run back up to Hobby Lobby for more molds and scents?  (Yes,  I checked their website, and they don't ship.  Boo.)  And so now, I can finally cross something new off my list!
